ANNOUNCEMENT:
In recognition of
Diabetes Alert Day, the Legislators Step To Health program will hold the
following event:
WHAT:
Conducting diabetes risk assessments (screenings) and will be providing
counseling and diabetes prevention education
WHERE:
Colorado State Capitol Room 107
WHEN:
Tuesday, March 25th from 8:00a.m.
– 10:00a.m.
Diabetes
Alert Day is a one day call-to-action to encourage
people to find out if they are at risk for diabetes. The American Diabetes Association encourages people to take
the Diabetes Risk Test (www.diabetes.org/alert) and, if individuals score high,
talk with their healthcare provider.
Did you know?
Sixty million Americans are unaware they have
diabetes or are at risk for developing type 2 diabetes.
Who’s at risk?
Your risk for type 2 diabetes increases as your
get older, gain too much weight, or if you do not stay active. Risk
factors for type 2 diabetes include:
- Having
high blood pressure (at or above 130/80)
- Having a
family history of diabetes
- Having
diabetes during pregnancy or having a baby weighing more than nine pounds
at birth
